MASTER IN PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil) DEGREES

Candidates having completed 16 years of formal education can apply for the M.Phil degree programmes listed below. All admissions to Kinnaird College for Women are based on merit. Admissions are based on the student’s previous academic performance, admission entry test and applicant’s interview.

M.Phil Accounting & Finance

The M.Phil Accounting & Finance combines advanced study and research. It is designed for students who wish to extend their knowledge of finance, financial accounting or financial engineering. It is particularly suitable for those intending to continue a PhD. The degree also provides a strong academic background for students who aim for a career in accounting and finance. Workshops, seminars and other interactive sessions conducted in collaboration with the corporate industry help students to understand the real requirement of financial markets.

Admission Requirements

  • 04 years BA/B.Sc. (Hons) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in Masters after 02 years BA/ B.Sc. The applicants should have done their Graduation/Masters in Accounting & Finance.
  • The GAT (General) conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score.
  • Candidates must appear for a subject based test and an Interview.

M.Phil Applied Linguistics

Two years post graduate program in Applied Linguistics at Kinnaird College for Women comprises of ten major subjects. This program content covers areas in the field of Applied and theoretical linguistics. The M.Phil program has been designed to introduce the students to classic and contemporary knowledge of basic and Applied Linguistics.

Admission Requirement

  • 04 years BA/B.Sc. (Hons) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in Masters after 02 years BA/ B.Sc. Candidates having Masters degree in Applied Linguistics, ELT, Education, English Literature TEFL and TESOL can apply. Candidates having Diploma either in Applied Linguistics or ELT can also apply.
  •  The GAT (General) conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score.
  • Candidates must appear for an Aptitude test and Interview.

M.Phil Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the field of science which has revolutionized the field of life sciences and medicine. Biochemistry has great importance in present time as it deals with the study of biochemical processes taking place in living organisms, structure of cellular components and their biomedical importance, enzymes, hormones, diseases and drugs.

The program develops in depth theoretical and practical knowledge of advance topics of Biochemistry and its allied areas. The students will be able to critically analyze the case studies / scenarios and apply the biochemistry knowledge in finding solution.

Admission Requirement

  • 04 years B.Sc. (Hons) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 in degree OR 60% marks in Masters after 02 years BA/ B.Sc. The applicants should have done their Graduation/Masters in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or other health related discipline.

MBA / M.Phil Business Administration (2 years)

  • 4 years BBA/B.COM (Hons) with minimum CGPA of 2.50.
  • The GAT-General conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score.

MBA / M.Phil Business Administration (2 ½ years)

Admission Requirement

  • 4 years BA/ B.Sc. (Non- Business education) with minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in Masters after 2 years BA / B.Sc.
  • The GAT-General conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score.
  • Candidates must appear for an Interview.

M.Phil / MS Clinical Psychology

This course intends to produce knowledgeable, efficient, responsible, professional minded and well-adjusted psychologists. The basic aim of this program is to enhance the understanding of students about cultural, social and environmental factors affecting the mental health and other basic concepts through interactive learning patterns. The formal teaching is supplemented with seminars, workshops and extensive lectures with the help of audio visual aids.

M.Phil Computer Science

In the last three decades, computers have entered all spheres of our lives from business applications, office automation, science and engineering, expert systems, information and data processing to shopping in grocery stores. Given the unprecedented pace at which developments are taking place there is a demand today for advanced training and education in Computer Science. The M.Phil Computer Science program at Kinnaird provides students with an in-depth knowledge of computer science fundamentals and provides them with an advanced understanding of databases, Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. It develops the student’s capacity for inquiry, abstract, logical thinking and critical analysis.

Experts in the field bring personal computing experiences to the classroom. Students are assigned projects, research work and make presentations aimed at helping them combine theoretical perspectives with professional practice. Students are trained to become well-qualified professionals in various organizations and to work as Consultants, Communication Specialists/Managers, Software Development Managers, Business and Information Systems Managers, Database Developers, IT Specialists, Intelligence Specialists, Network System Analyst, Systems Analysts, Computer Software Engineers and Programmers.

M.Phil English Language Teaching

The course is designed for English language education professionals who wish to remain practitioners of various kinds, so the academic continuum of the course leads from research and scholarship back into practice. The course offers students the opportunity to carry out educational research in ways intended to enhance their own professional development and to enable them to contribute to innovation in their work environment.

Admission Requirement

  • First class M.A degree in e.g. ELT, Education, Applied Linguistics, TEFL or TESOL and a CGPA not less than 3.0 OR teachers / lecturers with a good second division in M.A English Literature (Annual Systems)
  • She will need to give evidence of good research potential
  • Must submit a statement indicating her area of interest and idea for investigation
  • Should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Candidates should clear GAT-General conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score within year one of admission

M.Phil English Literature

The M.Phil in English Literature at Kinnaird is a 2 year course designed particularly for students wishing to take up literature as a research oriented discipline with an intensive focus on literary texts in their historical and intellectual contexts, as seen in both generic and chronological perspectives. The course is cumulative and self contained, and involves rigorous research work leading to a dissertation on a topic that interests the student.

M.Phil Environmental Sciences

The M.Phil in Environmental Sciences is a dynamic program which focuses on current issues of environment and their solutions. Training of professionals in key environmental issues is pivotal to the sustainable use of natural and environmental resources. With the need to produce qualified experts in the field, an M.Phil program of international standard has been developed. The program aims to produce students who will have broad appreciation of all aspects of environment and advanced training in selected areas, resulting in a research dissertation in the area chosen. Our approach spans local solutions to environmental problems to the effects of national policies on local, regional and global environment. The program aims to facilitate the development of knowledge and skills for present use of resources and sustainable development.

Students who complete their program can work as Environmental Managers/consultants, Environmental Impact Analysts, Environmental Risk Analysts, Policy Formulators on Environmental Matters, decision makers in Environmental Law and Environmental scientists in various organizations and industries.

Admission Requirement

  • 04 years B.Sc. (Hons) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in Masters after 02 years BA/B.Sc. The applicants should have done their Graduation/Masters in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Pure Sciences, Geography and any other relevant field. However, preference will be given to those students who have done their Graduation/Masters in Environmental Sciences. Moreover students from other majors will have to take additional bridge courses as determined by the department.
  • Applicants must have done Intermediate with Science.
  • The GAT (General) conducted by the National Testing Service with a minimum 50% cumulative score.
  • Candidates must appear for an Interview.

M.Phil Food Sciences & Human Nutrition

This research base program focuses on applying the knowledge of Food Science in the development of innovative food products along with its application in prevention and treatment of disease: enabling the students to work in various fields ranging from research in the food science laboratory – to working with the deprived population in the community.

The program also provides an opportunity for individuals already working in related fields to enhance their nutritional knowledge and practically apply it to their field of specialization.

  • 04 years BA/B.Sc. (Hons) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in Masters after 02 years BA/ B.Sc. The applicants should have done their Graduation/Masters in Food Sciences & Human Nutrition.

M.Phil International Relations

The M Phil in International Relations is a research oriented program which is designed to meet the needs of all those who wish to enhance their understanding of the subject. M.Phil Media Studies

This degree course is a highly rigorous and wide-ranging program for those students who are confident of their ability to become a successful part of the media industry. The program is highly practice-oriented and provides hands-on training to students in areas of their interest.  It offers a solid foundation in all aspects of the media business, with research work and special projects; all with the aim to put our students at the top of the media scene once they step out in the real world.

M.Phil Political Science

The aim of the M.Phil Political Science program is to prepare students for roles in sectors of academia, research, legislation, mass-media, non-governmental agencies and public policy by inculcating knowledge of political processes and skills. The degree emphasizes the research-led study of government and political institutions from area-specific and comparative perspectives, and provides a range of educational experiences in a variety of learning environments to develop written and oral communication skills as well as other technical skills. It provides solid foundation for a wide range of careers, including academic, professional, commercial, diplomatic and governmental positions.

M.Phil Statistics

The two-year M.Phil Statistics program at Kinnaird College will provide the students a sound understanding in the theory and applications of statistics. The M.Phil involves a combination of course work and research training and is designed to extend the competence of candidates in their chosen discipline. The course offers a wide range of subjects and will provide the quantitative skills and expertise required to carry out various types of econometric and statistical analyses. Students acquire the skills necessary to undertake applied and/or theoretical projects and the ability to communicate the results of their work to wider audiences. The mainstream statistical theory will be supplemented by studies in specialized areas such as Quality Control, Mathematical Statistics, Reliability Theory and Advanced Sampling Techniques.

The program involves a core in mainstream statistical theory and application, supplemented by studies in specialist stream. Students may choose to specialize in any of a number of areas including Quality Control, Mathematical Statistics, Advanced Sampling Techniques and Reliability Theory.

The structure and content of the courses within the program focus on the skill and techniques that are relevant and applicable.

 M.Phil Urdu Literature

The M. Phil in Urdu Literature is a 02 years course designed particularly for the students wishing to achieve higher standards in research focusing the textual study of modern Urdu fiction and poetry. In order to promote intellectual excellence literary trends will be analysed through translations of world literature. This course is a journey from classicism to modernism in Urdu literature. Students will have the capability to conduct research relevant to their interests.
