  1. Which nerve is responsible for hearing and balancing? What is its pathway?

Ans : Vestibulocochlear nerve ( eight nerve)

Path : Auditory fibers are entering into dorsal and ventral cochlear nuclei in pons. Vestibular fibers are going to group of vestibular nuclei in pons and medulla.

2 – What is sound ?

ANs _ It is a form of energy produced by a vibrating object. A sound wave consists of compression and rarefraction of molecules of the medium (air, liquid or soild ) in which it travels.

3­—What is Frequency ?

Ans : It is the number of cycles per second. The unit of frequency is hertz. A sound of 1000Hz means 1000 cycles per second.

Ans : Taste buds are found are found on three types of papillae of the tongue, as follows.

  1. Large number of taste buds are on walls of throughs that surround the circumvallate papillae.
  2. Moderate no. of taste buds are on fungi from papillae over flat anterior surface.
  3. Moderate numbers are on the foliate papillae located in folds along lateral surface of tongue.
  4. Some taste buds are located on palate, few on pillars, on the epiglottis and even in proximal oesophagus.
