ADMISSION TO THE MBBS PROGRAMME

LNMC is open to all applicants without any discrimination of sex, religion, race, creed, colour or domicile who are academically qualified for admission to the courses of study offered.

Admission to the MBBS program is based on academic merit and performance in Entry Test conducted by government authority in their respective provinces. Short listed candidates will be evaluated further on the basis of interviews.

A high academic score in any single discipline or any outstanding achievement alone is not sufficient for selection.

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSIONS

  1. ELIGIBILITY FOR PAKISTANI STUDENTS

    The candidate who has passed the Intermediate Science Examination (HSC-Pre-Medical Group) of the year annual 2014 and annual / supplementary 2013 securing at least 60% marks in aggregate, unadjusted, from Pakistani Board / University or an equivalent examination of a Board of Higher Secondary Education in Pakistan shall be eligible to apply for admission in MBBS

    OR

    The candidate who has passed any other examination of a foreign university or examination body of the year annual 2014 and annual / supplementary 2013 which contains the subjects declared as essential by PMDC in scope and standard, is found equivalent upon certification by the IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) to the Intermediate Science Pre-Medical (F.Sc. with 60% marks) Education, shall be eligible for admission in MBBS.

  2. ELIGIBILITY FOR OVERSEAS STUDENTS

    The following categories of students shall be eligible for admission on the foreign admissions/self finance seats if they fulfill the following conditions.

    1. Pakistani national student who has passed an examination equivalent to intermediate level of Pakistan from a foreign university or examining body or foreign education system with three subjects out of which Biology and Chemistry are essential subjects shall be eligible to appear in the entry test for admission in MBBS/BDS. If they have any of the following:
      1. SAT-II score of equal or more than 550 in three subjects two of which should be Biology and Chemistry, the third may be a science or of a humanities subject.ORA score of greater or equal to 24 in the MCAT exam.

        OR

        IBCC equivalence certificate with a score of equal to or greater than 60%.

      2. The candidate may also appear in the Provincial entry test if he / she so desires.
      3. The candidate is required to present a valid TOEFL or IEL T with a minimum score of 500 or 5.5 only if the medium of instruction of study two years prior to application for admission/entry test is not English. An alternate to TOEFL and IEL T is a certification by NUML Islamabad after a one year English language course.
    2. Foreigners and Pakistanis having dual nationality/resident status of a foreign country shall be eligible for foreign admissions irrespective of the place of their premedical study in Pakistan or abroad. The candidate is required to have passed F.Sc./HSSC/Intermediate from a Pakistan Board or an examination equivalent to intermediate level of Pakistan after study abroad from a foreign education system with three subjects out of which Biology and Chemistry are essential subjects.
    3. They are eligible to appear in the entry test for admission in MBBS/BDS. If they have any of the following:
      1. A SAT-II score of equal or more than 550 in three subjects two of which should be Biology and Chemistry, the third may be a science or of a humanities subject.ORA score of greater or equal to 24 in the MCAT exam.
      2. IBCC equivalence certificate with a score of equal to or greater than 60%.
    4. The candidate may appear in the provincial entry test.ORIn lieu of the entry test of the admission authority, the candidate is required to have passed SAT-II examination score with minimum 550 marks in each of the three subjects of which two have to be Biology and Chemistry or MCAT with minimum aggregate score of 24.

FOR ALL STUDENTS

Due to the particular nature and demands of the profession, a candidate seeking admission should possess adequate mental and physical health to be able to obtain medical or dental education as prescribed and sustain its rigors and should be able to practice medicine or dentistry after he/she has qualified and registered as medical or dental practitioner.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT

  1. Application forms along with Prospectus can be obtained on payment of a mandatory non-refundable application fee of Rs.2500/- for local seats and $75/- for Foreign seats.
  2. Application for admission must be submitted on the Application Form prescribed by LNH&MC which should be submitted along with photocopies of supporting documents duly attested by a Gazetted Officer of BPS-18 or above.
    1. 01 photocopy of Matriculation Certificate or provisional certificate from the school. 10th Grade or O-Level Equivalence Certificate issued by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
    2. 01 photocopy of Mark Sheet for Matriculation or Transcript for 10th Grade or O-Level.
    3. 01 photocopy of Marks Sheet for Intermediate Science (HSC) Pre-Medical or equivalent Certificate for 12th Grade or A-level.
    4. 01 photocopy of Transcripts of A-level or 12th Grade issued by the concerned Board.
    5. 01 recent passport size photograph to be pasted on Application Form without attestation.
    6. 01 photocopy of applicant’s National Identity Card, if the applicant has attained the age of eighteen years; or “B” form if he/she is below the age of eighteen years.
    7. 01 photocopy of applicant’s Father’s/Guardian’s National Identity Card.

Note:

  1. Applicant can be asked to submit any other document in original or photocopy at any time as required by the LNMC.
  2. Incomplete forms shall be rejected. Forms will not be accepted after the closing date.
  3. The applications for admissions to 1st year MBBS shall be invited through an advertisement in the press mentioning the last date of receiving such applications. The application shall have to be submitted personally or through an authorized person.

CENTRAL AMENITIES AT LNMC

Library
At LNMC, a substantial collection is available on basic medical and clinical subjects, both in print and electronic formats. The students have access to the Liaquat National Hospital’s library which houses more than 80 Medical Journals and periodicals in addition to 5000 advanced texts in various clinical disciplines.

 

Learning Resource Centre
Access to networked computers is available to both the students and faculty members. It is linked to the Digital library (Courtesy of HEC) with access to more than 30,000 Texts and 300 Medical Journals. There is an extensive collection of audiovisual material to augment learning in various basic and clinical sciences. The seating capacity of learning Resources Center has been increased to 40 after recent renovation.

 

Academic Council Complex
This complex has a large auditorium; several lecture halls and a hospitality suite which are all fully equipped with latest audiovisual facilities.

 

Student Cafeteria
The LNMC cafeteria in the new link building offer widely ranging menu in snacks with hot and cold beverages in cozy atmosphere.

 

Hostel Facilities
Limited accommodation is available on the premises for both male and female medical students. When available, preference in allocation of accommodation is given to candidates from outside Karachi. Hostel accommodation charges are to be paid as six month advance, along with security deposit and Hostel rules have to be followed.

STUDENT SUPPORTS SERVICES

 

LNMC Secretariat
This office deals with a wide range of issues pertaining to student’s life at the campus. It is responsible for coordinating admissions, accommodation, and financial matters.

 

Career Advisory Services
We at LNMC regard career building as an important responsibility. In addition to individual counseling this advisory service holds seminars and workshops to increase general awareness of the professional pathways available. Many eminent visiting Pakistani physicians also offer such help.

 

Research & Skills Development Center
The Skills Lab is equipped with International standard mannequins, both adult and paediatric, and has been training and certifying medical students and doctors appearing in local (TOACS exam for FCPS II) and foreign exams (especially appearing in PLAB and USMLE examinations). The Skills lab is also responsible to train our undergraduate MBBS students.

CURRICULUM

Keeping in view the general educational objectives of PM&DC and in accordance with directives of Government of Pakistan, the MBBS course at the LNMC is Community Oriented with emphasis on integration and adoption of a holistic approach.

 

LEARNING STRATEGIES

Keeping in mind the latest developments in medical education, the college endeavors to promote self learning strategies such as Problem Based Learning and other small group activities. Self study, assignments, seminars, presentations, field visits and tutorials are all part of the teaching and learning process.

 

RESEARCH

Research is an integral part of the MBBS course and would be fully supported by a well-equipped learning resource center and laboratory facilities. We feel that an early introduction to research methodology is imperative and the students would be supported by well-trained supervisors conducting these projects.
