Avicenna Medical College Lahore MBBS Admissions 2014-15

Admission Criteria

Admissions to the MBBS Program shall be strictly made on merit under the guidelines laid down by PMDC, UHS and MOH. Students from all Provinces of Pakistan, Foreigners and Overseas Pakistanis may apply according to their category:

  • Local Students (born, raised and educated in Pakistan)
  • Overseas Pakistani Students (Expatriate Pakistanis).They should have achieved their qualifications from abroad.e.g Pakistani students who get equivalent or FSc qualification from abroad.
  • Foreign Students (Holder of Foreign passport / Green Card etc.)

Avicenna Medical College is recognized by the PM&DC and is affiliated with the UHS. All admission criteria are specified by these two organizations.

Criteria: The current rules demand that the candidate should have 60% marks in the FSc or equivalent examination. Also that the Candidate should have appeared in the UHS Entry Test or should have qualified in the respective Provincial Entry Test as per the PMDC regulations (Entry Test of one Province applicable in other Provinces).

Overseas Pakistani Candidates and Foreign Student have a choice in whether they want to appear in the UHS Entry Test or avail the SAT II score of 550 marks as an alternative to the UHS entry test.  It is imperative that the Student should have acquired the FSc/equivalent from Overseas to be in the Overseas Category. Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Students can avail the opportunity of appearing in the SAT II(SAT Subjects Test) in Sep and Oct  to attain the requisite qualification. The College admits all groups of students on merit, applicants compete within their group and the fee paid by each group is different. Please see fee schedule or visit us for more information.

Eligibility Criteria :

Minimum admission eligibility that a student must meet to secure a position at Avicenna Medical College are:

  • 660 Marks(60%) in FSc.with (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects
  • Successful completion of FSc. Exam. Or Qualification Equivalency by IBCC.
  • Should have appeared in the UHS Entry Test or should have qualified in the respective Provincial Entry Test as per PMDC rules. (Entry Test of one Province is applicable in other Provinces).
  • Successful in Interview.

Admissions to the MBBS Program shall be strictly made on Merit under the guidelines laid down by PM&DC, UHS and MOH.

Successful Candidates in Admissions/interview process shall be granted admissions strictly on merit as envisaged in the PMDC regulations and UHS instructions.

The list of successful candidates shall be displayed on College Notice Board and Website.

There is no Entry Test of the Medical College however ‘Eligible’ status in MCAT of UHS is essential requirement for considering applications. To find out more see ‘Eligibility’ criterion.

The candidates fulfilling the minimum academic requirement for admission will be be contacted for an interview date.

Short-Listed candidates will be offered Admission, however the admission will only be confirmed once the Fee has been deposited in the designated account. Any Candidate who fails to or delays the deposit the fees in time will lose the right to Admission and the same seat will be offered to the next deserving candidate.

Scholarships :

Abdul Waheed Scholarship – Type I

This scholarship is aimed at extending a helping hand to talented studentsand is also aimed at being a source ofencouragement for them and others to do better.

This scholarship is to be awarded to three students as follows:

On Admission:

Grant of Scholarship to the extent of half Tuition Fee to ONE student of Highest merit.  Grant of Scholarship to TWOStudents to the extent of 25% of the Tuition Fee. These students will be those who have Second and Third merit. Where there are more than one student at any Position the maximum total number of awardees will remain three.

Subsequent years:

The scholarship will pass on to those who have stood first, Second and Third from amongst the College Students in the UHS Professional Examination.

All Scholarship Holders will have to retain their position if they are to continue to retain a scholarship. Failure to retain any of the three positions will result inseizure of Scholarship for award to a better student (those who have secured the desired position).

In case of identity of Marks etc between two contestants, the decision of the Academic Council of Avicenna Medical College will be final.

Abdul Waheed Scholarship – Type II

TWO students shall beeducatedwithout being charged any Tuition Fee. This way the Trust shall be spending 30 lakhs on each student in 5 years.

This Scholarship shall be awarded to the most deserving students who have a very good merit but are otherwise not able to afford education in a Private Medical College. An elaborate system is in place to select such students.

These students shall be required to show good results and good behavior throughout their stay at the College as any poor performance shall result in the withdrawal of the scholarship irrespective of the consequences good or bad for the student. The decision of the Trust shall be final and not subject to arguments or litigations.

Abdul Waheed Encouragement for the Best

Any student who attains a University position shall be sent for UMRA (along with her Mehram in case of a girl).All expenses shall be borne by the Trust.

Abdul Waheed Trust – Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance by Abdul Waheed Trust shall be awarded as under:

Rs.50, 000 for Children of Widows.

Good Student Scholarship

Rs 100,000 for students with merit over- 1000.

Rs.75, 000 for students with Marks 975-1000

Rs.50, 000 for students with Marksbetween 950-975.

Rs.25, 000 for deserving students with Marksbetween 925-950.

The scholarship/financial assistance will be Abdul Waheed Trusts contribution towards the tuition fees.

Hostel :

Hostel facility is available on Campus for Girls and Boys. Both the hostels are totally segregated and separate with no connection at all. The girl’s hostel currently has a capacity of 300 students and the Boys Hostel has a capacity of 120 students

The hostel consists of twin sharing room, three sharing room all with attached bathrooms. The hostel has its own dining room, TV lounge, students Kitchen, guest room and the warden’s room. Ayas are available round the clock to serve the students. Washing and ironing facility is available against a small payment. Both the hostels have dedicated electric and water supply. Back-up generators supply electricity during Load Shedding.

Students are allowed to have a small sized refrigerator and an air cooler at extra charge of electricity expense which is monitored through individual room meters.
