Interview

Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)

The college will conduct MMI as a part of its admission process. These will consist of 8-10 interactive stations of 7-8 minutes duration with a single interviewer at each station. The stations will focus on the following domains.

-      Critical Thinking

-      Ethical Decision Making

-      Communication Skills

-      Knowledge of Health care system

Final eligibility for admissions will be decided by the admission committee according to the applicant’s performance in all area of assessment.
Applicants are cautioned that interview although held towards the tail end of the admission process, are only a component of the whole process and contribute a small weight age to the cumulative merit.

Facility for online interview will not be provided to any candidate

Final Selection
Relative weightage of all the components of the Admission Process (for Local applicant);

  • Academic: 10% achievement in matric or its equivalent,
  • Academic: 40% in intermediate or its equivalent,
  • Academic: 37.5% in Shifa Entrance Test.
  • 12.5% in the interview are added up to arrive at the final merit list.

For International Applicant:

  • Academic: 10% achievement in matric or its equivalent,
  • Academic: 40% in intermediate or its equivalent,
  • Academic: 37.5% in SAT-II Scores.
  • 12.5% in the interview are added up to arrive at the final merit list.

 
The top applicants on the merit list of both the categories will be invited, to join the first year MBBS class. No formal waiting list will be announced, but all the remaining applicants stay on the waiting list. Any dropouts from the class will be replaced from the waiting list, on merit, until the beginning of the Classes.

Applicants will be informed of the selection individually by email & SMS as soon as the final list is ready.

 

Prerequisites

 

Any one of the following qualifications is necessary for an application to be eligible for consideration. All foreign qualifications must be supported by an Equivalence Certificate issued by the IBCC.

  • 60 percent overall score in pre-medical group of Intermediate Certification in Pakistan. However, much higher scores prove competitive.
  • British Advanced Level Certification with Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics. The achievements should be over 60% (pre-medical) in IBCC Equivalence Certificate.
  • US Grade-12 Diploma (minimum GPA 3.0) accompanied by an Equivalence Certificate from the IBCC of at least 60 % F.Sc pre-medical qualification   (that will require inclusion of Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Mathematics and English in the final 3 years).
  • Higher Secondary School Certificate from other countries with Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics  accompanied by an Equivalence Certificate from IBCC of at least 60% F.SC Pre-medical qualification.

Eligibility for foreign seat: Foreign National, Dual National, Overseas Pakistanis and students passed Grade 12/ A-level from foreign education system.

The Equivalence Certificate will be obtained from a government office of the Ministry of Education called The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). This office attempts to translate foreign qualifications into Pakistani equivalents. It has its own requirements to be met and it can take time. The Shifa College of Medicine has no connections with that office and is, therefore, unable to provide any information or assistance in that connection. It is the applicants’ responsibility to obtain the Equivalence Certificate before an offer of admission could be formalized.

Financial Assistance

The College is managed on a “not-for-profit” philosophy. Consequently, in its formative years, it will not be possible to offer significant financial help to needy students but as the sponsorships for students’ assistance build up, limited financial help may become available in future. However, the College will continue to encourage and promote academic excellence amongst its students through merit scholarships and awards.

Merit Scholarships

In line with its philosophy of promoting quality and recognizing merit, the College has instituted Merit Awards and Scholarship. For Students on Board, the awards are based on their performance in Annual Professional Examinations.

Merit Scholarship of Rs. 75, 000

For first three students securing at least 80% aggregate in the Annual Professional Examination in any year.

Merit Citations and Awards

Additionally, Merit Citations and Awards would be given for Excellence in individual subjects as well as in co-curricular activities.

Gold Medals in Different Disciplines

Dr. Mohammad Amin Gold Medal: For first position holder in First Professional Examination.

Dr. Zaheer Ahmad Gold Medal: For first position holder in Second Professional Examination.

Dr. Nazir Ahmed Gold Medal: For first position holder in Third Professional Examination.

Dr. Sayyed Tauqir A. Shah : For first position holder in Final Professional Examination.

Ibn Sena Gold Medal

This is an exclusive award of high distinction and is awarded to the top student, amongst those who score at least 80% in each Annual Professional Examination over the 5 year period.

Shifa Gold Medal For Research

This medal will be awarded to the student with the most significant contribution to research during his/her time at Shifa College of Medicine. Final Year students who have been involved in research will be required to submit the details of their publications, abstracts and presentations at scientific conferences three months prior to graduation for appraisal by a review committee. The selected candidate will be awarded the Shifa Gold Medal for Research on the convocation day.’

Hostel Accommodation
Limited hostel accommodation will be available to boys and girls separately, in rented premises, close to the college in Sector I-8 of Islamabad.

A member of faculty or staff supervises each unit of residence. The facilities provided include

  • Shared bedrooms,
  • Toilets,
  • Sitting rooms,
  • Kitchen,
  • AC on request.

Essential staff like cook, cleaner and security watch will be provided.

The hostel fee Rs.350,000 is payable in advance. Students will have the freedom to supervise and manage their own mess and menu under the guidance of the hostel warden.

Students desiring hostel accommodation must put in their requests as early as possible to ensure availability of hostel accommodation. College cannot guarantee that every one will get a place, particularly the latecomers.

Please note that hostel charges once paid are non – refundable.

    1. How do I complete the application process
    2. Applicant should complete the online application and submit the application fee           Local applicant can pay the fees in any online branches of Habib bankand International applicant can pay online using a credit card.\

    3. What Documents do I need to complete the process and where do I send them? 

      Applicants are required to submit the application online, upload scanned documents, pay application fee to the bank and if results are pending, post or deliver by hand photocopies of documents to the admission office. Documents include: (where applicable).

      Detailed Marks Sheet of S.S.C. and F.Sc.
      Equivalence certificates of O-Levels and A-Levels
      Equivalence certificate of High School Diploma .

    4. How much is the application fee? 

      The application fee, varies if you are a local or a foreign student. The cost of the application fee will be indicated on the completion sheet. The fee details are given here.

    5. How can I pay the application fee? 

      The applicant applying from inside Pakistan will be able to print a bank voucher and can pay the fee in cash in any of the online branches of Habib bank. The International applicant can pay their fee online using a credit card

    6. How do I make changes to my application after it has been submitted? 

      Once the application has been submitted changes are NOT ALLOWED. However, if there are areas that were left incomplete, like F.Sc. results, the applicant can request the Admissions Office to update his/her application.

    7. How long will it take to process my application? 

      Shifa College of Medicine will begin processing applications soon after they are complete and it may take up to one week.

    8. Do I need to write Entrance Test ? 

      Shifa Entrance Test (Conducted by NTS) is compulsory for all local applicants. Only international applicants are exempted that provide SAT II scores.

    9. What is the application deadline? 

      Application deadlines are given  .

    10. When will I receive an admission decision? 

      A limited number of applicants are called for an interview. The final decision will be sent to you after the interviews have been completed.

    11. After you submit an application and pay the fee, you will receive an email and SMS confirming your completion of application. Please keep in mind that it might take up to one week to verify your application and fee payment.
    12. How do I obtain my user name and password? 

      After the initial registration you will receive your username and password via email. Every time you have to login to the system you will be required to enter this username and password. In case you forget your password, you can request a new password through this link.

    13. How will I know if my application payment has been received?? 

      As soon as the Admissions Office receives your fee payment, an email and SMS will be sent to you for confirmation

    1. When I final Submit it does not save and gives an error message of “Application is incomplete” 

      Click on the relevant tab and complete areas that are left blank. Click save and go back to final Submit.

    1. How do I apply for both categories – foreign and local? (International Student); 

      You can apply on both categories by clicking “For applying in another program” on home page after login.You will have to pay two separate respective fees.

    1. If I am applying on both categories than how much fee I have to pay? (International Student) 

      If you are applying on International seat you need to submit US$: 200 (plus service charges) through online payment and in case of local seat you need to submit Rs: 6000 in any Online branche of Habib bank.

    1. How can I submit my SAT-II scores? Is there any university code to send scores online? (International Student) 

      Yes, we have the university code.The code for submitting SAT II score is 7393

    1. How can I prove my status of being an international student? (International Student)

      Please provide any one of the following documents : – Copy of Passport – Proof of Dual Nationality – Overseas I.D Card – Proof of Intermediate equivalent qualification from outside Pakistan.

    1. Is there any need to submit hard copies of documents? 

      If you have not submitted scanned copy of your documents than for verification purposes you have to provide hard copies of all documents to the Admissions Office. Documents can be submitted personally to the Admissions Office or by posting them to address given below: Shifa College of Medicine (Admissions Office) Pitras Bukhari Road, H-8/4, Islamabad Pakistan.

    1. When NTS will send me Entrance Test Ticket / Roll number Slip? 

      NTS will confirm about the test details (Venue, Date & Time) and dispatch roll number slip to each candidate through courier service, 12 days prior to the Entrance Test.

    1. Where will Entrance Test List will be published? 

      List of candidates, appearing in the entrance test will also be uploaded on National Testing Service (NTS) website (www.nts.org.pk), one week prior to the Entrance Test.

 

  1. How can I apply if my results are pending? 

    You can apply on provisional basis and you need to submit your results before the deadline of 30th September 2014.

The charges for the prospectus are to be deposited in cash Rs.500 at the Admission Office counter in person. Requests by post should be accompanied by a bank draft of Rs.600 (within Pakistan);US $50 (outside Pakistan) made out to Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University,and crossed.

Cheques and postal orders are not acceptable. Please do not send cash with
postal requests.

Applicants aspiring to join the medical studies at Shifa are advised to read the eligibility for application carefully and apply early without waiting for the last date.  Admission to a medical institution is always competitive and well contested and applicants will be better advised to prepare for the admission process seriously and with commitment. To register for online admission :-

 
Online Applications without application fee will not be entertained. The application fee covers costs of processing, entrance test and interviews. Local applicants can pay the fee(Rs.6000) in the prescribed bank while Foreign Students would be able to pay fees (US $200 + service charges) by credit cards.(All fees are non-refundable)

Students applying in both categories must submit both applications separately with their
respective fee.
