Candidates are required to take the NAT-1E/ NAT-1CS test for admissions at IST. Please note that NAT-1E is acceptable for admission in all undergraduate programs offered by IST whereas NAT-1CS is acceptable only for admission in BS Space Science.

The test is conducted by NTS in all major cities of Pakistan. You are required to directly contact NTS for this test. For further info on NAT-1E/NAT-1CS test, please visit NTS website i.e. www.nts.org.pk.

Acceptable Test Dates: The results of the NAT-1E/NAT-1CS tests taken from 1st July 2013 to 22 June 2014 are acceptable for admissions in semester Fall 2014.

 

General Eligibility Requirements for HSSC / A Level / Equivalent:

A candidate seeking admission to a baccalaureate degree program at IST must meet the following criteria:

Candidates must fulfill the following conditions:

  • SSC/ O-Level/ Equivalent certificate (Science) with 60% marks
  • FSc Pre-Engineering with minimum 60% overall marks however a student must have 65% marks in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry for admission.
  • A-Level / Cambridge students should have IBCC certificate equivalent to FSc Pre-Engineering with overall 60% marks and must have at least two B’s and one C in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for admission.
  • 50% marks in NAT-IE.
  • Age Limit: 22 Years

For Space Science Program: 

  • SSC/ O-Level/ Equivalent certificate (Science) with 60% marks
  • FSc Pre-Engineering/ Computer Science/ ICS students can apply for Space Science Program.
  • Students should have 65% marks in Physics, Mathematics & Computer Science/Chemistry.
  • 50% marks in NAT-IE/ NAT-ICS.
  • Age Limit: 22 Years

General Eligibility Requirement for Reserved Seats through SAT-II:

 

Seats are reserved for foreign students, children of Pakistani’s living abroad / dual nationality holders. International fee structure ($) will be applicable if the student is selected based on eligibility criteria mentioned below.

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • SSC/ O-Level/ Equivalent certificate (Science) with 60% marks
  • FSc Pre-Engineering with minimum 60% overall marks however a student must have 65% marks in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry for admission.
  • A-Level / Cambridge students should have IBCC certificate equivalent to FSc Pre-Engineering with overall 60% marks and must have at least two B’s and one C in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for admission.
  • SAT-II with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics level –II with atleast 550 marks in each subject.
  • Age Limit: 22 Years
Note:
Dual nationality / expatriate students can also apply on open merit. However, the student must fulfill all other eligibility requirements for open merit.


General Eligibility Requirements for Diploma Holders

Five (05) percent of the total numbers of seats in engineering programs are reserved for diploma holder in engineering discipline.
A candidate seeking admission against reserved seats for the holders of Diploma of Associate Engineer, the candidate should have passed diploma examination from a Board of Technical Education in the relevant technology and must meet the following conditions:

Candidates applying against the reserved seats for Diploma of Associate Engineer shall not be eligible unless their DAE discipline is in relevant technology as specified against each degree course given below:

Aerospace Engineering

  • Diploma in Materials
  • Diploma in Metallurgy
  • Diploma in Automobile
  • Diploma in Aerospace
  • Diploma in Mechanical

Electrical Engineering 

  • Diploma in Electronics

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

Selection for HSSC/A-Level/Equivalent (Phy, Chem & Math) or (Phy, Math & Computer) through NAT-1E/NAT-1CS

Admission shall be granted absolutely on merit which will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the following examinations, and according to the weightage mentioned against the respective examination:

For FSc Students:

SSC / O-Level / Equivalent 20%
FSc Part-1 40%
NAT-1E/NAT-1CS 40%

For A-Level Students:

SSC / O-Level / Equivalent 40%
NAT-1E/NAT-1CS 60%

Selection for Reserved Seats of Diploma Holders through NAT-1E

Candidate for the reserved seats of DAE will be granted admission on the basis of merit and the weightage mentioned below:

SSC / O-Level / Equivalent 20%
DAE (Aggregate Marks) 50%
NAT-1E 30%

Selection for Reserved Seats through SAT-II

Candidate for the reserved seats for foreign Students (children of Pakistani’s living abroad / dual nationality holders) will be granted admission on the basis of merit and the weightage mentioned below:
For FSc Students:

SSC / O-Level / Equivalent 20%
FSc Part-1 40%
SAT-II 40%

For A-Level Students:

SSC / O-Level / Equivalent 40%
SAT-II 60%

 

Several renowned government organizations like SUPARCO, NESCOM and NDC award sponsorships to IST students for their studies. The sponsorship is offered on the basis of admission merit of the students or semesters’ results. The sponsorships cover university dues of the students (tuition fee, hostel/ transport dues as approved by the sponsoring agency).

Scholarships

IST offers scholarships to top six students in each discipline excluding sponsored students. Scholarships are granted on the basis of admissions merit and semesters’ results. The scholarship covers 100%, 50% and 25 tuition fee waiver as detailed below:

What is the scope of Aerospace Engineering and Electrical Engineering?

Aerospace Engineering is an emerging field of the new millennium. Presently, Pakistan has shortage of Aerospace Engineers and most of the seats reserved for Aerospace Engineers are vacant and very few Aerospace Engineers are coming from abroad to fulfill the needs.
Like wise Electrical Engineering has a vast market nationally and internationally. The Engineers in these fields are hired in Government Sector on enhanced pay scales.

Does the institute provide hostel facility?
IST provides furnished hostel facility for boys and girls.

Does the institute have affiliation with any university?
IST has its own university charter which requires no affiliation with any university.

Does PEC recognize the Institute?
Aerospace Engineering and Communication Systems Engineering that the institute offers are duly accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

Does IST have enough qualified faculty?
Yes, IST has enough highly qualified and experienced faculty in the respective areas.

Does IST have proper lab facilities?
Yes, IST already has well furnished laboratories to support the programs. Specialized laboratories are also being established.

Does IST have sufficient computer facilities?
Yes, IST has a modern computer classroom equipped with state of art computers. The classroom is complemented by a 24 x 7 computer lab and Internet Cafe to provide internet facility.

Does IST have a library?
Yes, IST has a resourceful library with sufficient current editions of books, reference material to support the programs, which is constantly updated. Library is also subscribing more than 16 periodicals and on line professional publications.

What are the criteria for awarding scholarships?
This is decided by the Board of Directors on merit basis.

Are Intermediates in Computer Science (ICS) eligible for admission?

Students with HSSC/ A-Level/ Equivalent (Phy, Maths and Computer) are eligible to apply for the program of BS (Space Science) only.

What would be the strength of a class?
There will be forty (40) students admitted to each program.

What are the prospects of higher education?
The IST programs are accredited nationally and internationally and the student shall have no difficulty in getting admissions abroad.

What is the System of Education at IST?
IST follows the semester system. Each program is of eight semesters and each semester is of eighteen weeks duration. There will be two semesters in each year.

Are DAEs eligible for admission?
Yes, there are limited seats for DAEs.
