Medical education or business or joke ?
A popular TV channel of Pakistan Express News conducted a program about corruption and substandard education level in private medical colleges of Pakistan.In there progarm Bat se bat Host Dr Maria Zulfiqar showed some clips from Akhtar saeed medical college about corruption in admissions and point out the so called Donation term frequently used in private medical colleges of Pakistan.
The summery of that TV program in Urdu is attached at the end of this post so you can read that easily but after seeing this program and news in Express paper I also thought  to write about private medical colleges life with my little bit experience.
So, we will talk step wise about the so called charming life and before admission life . Lets start with admissions.
Note : Here i am sharing my personal experiences. Critics and appreciations are welcomed.
1-Admissions in Private medical colleges :
In most colleges there is no proper system of admissions. Merit is not their priority at all. Money is their aim. Today i will elaborate you guys the word Donation. If you had visited some private medical college you may more familiar with this word than me. So , you have scored bad in matric , inter and mcat but your parents want to be you doctor no problem at all. Give them donation and enter the medical college easily.
What is donation ??? Private medical colleges owner frequently use this word. This word means that you have to pay extra fees than normal fee of the college. In this regard some owners are not shy at all  they simply say ” dekhen g  ap k bchay k marks boht kam hain so normal seat pe admission possible ni ha is lye ap ko donation dena parey gee agr admisin lena ha ” thats it. They dont demand for 1 or 2 or 3 lac for donation. They start from 30 lac and gradualy comes at 20 0r 10 lac. You can say this donation in simple words ” Rishwat”.
They also use different tacts to take donations like they say your this money will be spent on the poor patients of the hospital or we will show you as overseas or this money is trust projects of the college.
Anyways, by hook or by crook you are now in a medical college . Congrats ! 🙂
Level of Education :
In this program one point was sub standard level of education is given in private medical colleges. I don`t agree completely with this point. Except some colleges in Lahore all other have best faculty in their college. See MBBS results of UHS in the last years you will see Mostly positions holders are from private medical colleges. Overall result of private medical colleges is also super. So this is not a big issue with these colleges. They take a huge amount of fee from you for teaching purpose and they really do well their job in teaching regard.
Practise :
In medical from 3rd year the clinical is started. This means students start going in attached teaching hospitals and take ward there. As now the condition is PMDC do not recoginze a college whose teaching hospital is not in running in position or with no patient flow. For example you see Doctors Hospital which is also a teaching hospital of LMDC . So there is no doubt in their medical practise and professionlism.Besides this i have seen that many praivte medical colleges also arrange field trips for 3rd , 4th and 5th year students.

I agree with the above illegalities and irregularities. In my humble opinion, in order to remove the manoply of private colleges, self finance seats in punjab for local students should be restored. In all provinces, there are self finance/self supporting seats in every medical college but in punjab these seats have been abolished and converted into open merit seats since 2009. The fee of private medical college is 10 lack per annum which deprives some shining students from their right of getting medical education and a common man cannot afford it Further the quality of education in private medical college is not at the level of public sector medcoal colleges. whereas fee in Government Medical College on self finance basis is 250000/- to Rs.3 lac per annum which affordable for common man. It is therefore, humbly prayed that seats on self finance basis may also kindly be restored in punjab giving uniform treatment like other provinces.
CMH Lahore medical college is the only private medical college in punjab which holds its own college entry test each year to oblige some candidates whose marks in provincial entry test are comparatively low which is illegal in the presence of provincial entry test conducted by University of Health Sciences Lahore under the directions of PMDC. Last year, the PMDC cancelled all admissions made on the basis of so called college own entry test. But admissions were not cancelled and as such all admissions of last year are illegal. This year it is again holding its own entry test changing its name as apptitude test which is not a pptitude test but 80% is from books of FSCs and as such is so called illegal entry test and not an apptitude testand merit list was not displayed. This is a serious illegality and irregularity. PMDC should take action and CMH Lahore medical college is to be directed to make admissions on the basis of aggregate of entry test of University of Health Sciences Lahore as is done in all private medical colleges of punjab and not including marks of its own entry test which is illegal and should display its merit list.
