Medical colleges: UHS issues first merit selection list

LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS), on Monday, issued the first merit list of candidates selected to be admitted in 16 public sector medical colleges of the Punjab.

The merit has risen by 2.16 per cent, going up from 82.1961 per cent last year to 84.3615 per cent this year.

The merit has been calculated as per the weightage formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), adding 10 per cent of matriculation, 40 per cent of intermediate and 50 per cent of entrance test marks.

Only those candidates who secured 80 per cent or above aggregate marks as per PMDC formula were eligible to apply for admission on open merit basis this year. Applications were received from October 31 to November 10.

A total of 36,100 candidates appeared in the entrance test this year. Out of these 6737 eligible candidates applied for admission against 3117 open merit (2942 MBBS + 175 BDS), 61 under-developed districts’ (49 MBBS +12 BDS) and 20 disabled candidates (19 MBBS + 01 BDS) seats available in 16 public sector medical and 03 dental colleges of the province.

The King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore, remained the top choice of candidates with merit for the college closing at 90.0039 per cent. The last merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore is 88.2342 per cent, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore 87.0152 per cent, Nishtar Medical College, Multan 86.5160 per cent, Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore 86.5108 per cent, Ammer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore 86.0117 per cent, Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad 85.6926 per cent, Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi 85.5853 per cent, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur 85.1922 per cent, Sargodha Medical College, Sargodha 85.0225 per cent, Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala 84.8823 per cent, Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan 84.6960 per cent, Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat 84.6926 per cent, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal 84.5519 per cent, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot 84.4675 per cent and D.G. The distribution of 2942 open merit MBBS seats is as follows: King Edward Medical University Lahore (303), Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore (302), Nishtar Medical College Multan (281), Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women (209), Services Institute of Medical Sciences (191), Punjab Medical College Faisalabad (288), Rawalpindi Medical College Rawalpindi (299), Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur (274), Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan (126), Sargodha Medical College Sargodha (79), Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat (90), Sahiwal Medical College Sahiwal (100), Gujranwala Medical College Gujranwala (100), Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot (100), Ameer-ud-Din Medical College / Lahore General Hospital Lahore (100) and D.G. Khan Medical College Dera Ghazi Khan (100).

A total of 84 candidates applied for admission against 20 seats reserved for disabled students. They were examined by a medical board from November 14 to November 17. After examination, only 34 candidates were declared disabled and admission was granted to top 19 candidates in MBBS. The last merit in this category is 62.1385 per cent.

For admission against 61 seats reserved for the students of 06 under-developed districts including Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and D.G. Khan, a total of 593 applications were received. The last merit for MBBS in this category is as follows: Muzzafargarh 84.5766 per cent, Rajanpur (Tribal Area) 57.8310 per cent, Rajanpur (settled area) 84.6762 per cent, Lodhran 84.5394 per cent, Bhakkar 83.1450 per cent, Layyah 84.5974 per cent and D.G. Khan (Tribal Area) 78.5219 per cent and D.G. Khan (Settled Area) 84.5169 per cent.

All the lists are available on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk.

The selected candidates will be issued call letters by the respective colleges. The MBBS classes in public sector medical colleges will commence on December 13.

The second selection list for MBBS will be displayed on December 20 whereas first selection list for BDS will be displayed in December 27.

The classes in dental college will start on January 14 next year.
